FIRE DEPARTMENT FUND RAISER

The Fire Department is going to sell raffle tickets for a Cando Quasquicentennial Rifle and will also ”auction” one at the beginning of the street dance on Saturday Night.  There is a limited edition of 11 of these rifles and there will never be any more produced.

VOLUNTEERS

We will need some volunteer help for 1 hour shifts at the information booth in the armory, and “crowd Control” at the children’s games.  If you can help please let us know when you mail in the registration.

AFGHAN (THROW)

An Afghan or more commonly called a “throw” will be sold by the committee for $50.00.  This depicts the logo, the five churches, school, Audi, Courthouse, Elevator row, and old Main Street.  Other souvenirs will be sold by creative impressions from Devils Lake, setup in their trailer on Main Street.  I understand they will be available for sale prior to, during, and after the celebrations.  www.creativeimpressions.wordpress.com.

ARTS CENTER

We have scheduled a photo show by Mark Fox, “IMAGES OF SPORTS”.  He will bring it, hang it, and mind the gallery.

We have a large space and could accommodate some photos from other people too.  I would assume that we would not be inundated with too many photos.  If other people want to hang some of their work they must contact Shelly Lord, 701-968-3655, 1115 4th Ave, Cando, ND 58324 and furnish their name, phone number, address, email address, with the number of photos with the size of framed work.

The photos must be ready for hanging with wire (no saw toothed hangers).  They must be hand delivered and picked up at the end of the show.  They must come with labels and the Artist must be prepared to take a turn at minding the gallery.

We reserve the right to close the show if we have too many images.  There will be no insurance coverage.  The photographers must insure their own work.  If photos are for sale the Arts Center charges 10% commission.  We reserve the right to reject images that are in bad taste.  We need the information by May 1, 2009.

COOKBOOK

The Shade Tree Committee will be selling cookbooks as their fund raiser for $12.00.  They can be preordered by sending $17.00 ($5.00 shipping and handling) to Shade Tree Committee, PO Box 44, Cando, ND 58324-0044, or send $12.00 with instructions to reserve one for pickup during the celebration.  They will also be available at the armory.  For local pick up now, just stop by the City Auditor’s office.

FOLK DANCES

As a gift to the community, Tami Belzer-Gunter and Dave Gunter will be teaching folk dances from around the world on Saturday, July 3rd in the North Star gym at 1:30PM. This fun-filled hour is open to all ages; no prior dance experience is necessary to attend. "Just come and have a blast!" is the invitation from Tami and Dave.

The memorial building and the arena have both been reserved to be available for inclement weather.

TOWNER COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Towner County Community Foundation will be taking orders for a CD comprising a compilation of film footage of Cando from the 40’s, 50’s, 70’s, 80’s and this years Quasquicentennial celebration.  Features to include clips of a Cando football game from the 40’s, air show at the Cando airport from the 50’s along with Diamond Jubilee footage from the 50’s.

Rough cut footage will be showing at the registration booth in the Armory along with some of the local businesses.

Order forms will be available around town for a minimum donation to the Towner County Community Foundation of $35 plus shipping.

Anyone interested in placing an order may contact Brad Bergdahl at 701-968-4000 or bradbergdahl@stellarnet.com.  Estimated delivery will be sometime in August.
