RECREATION
For more than a century, the Towner County area has been a mecca for waterfowl hunting with its natural sloughs and lakes, including Snyder Lake, Lake Alice, Rock Lake, Hurricane Lake and Lake Irvine. With the addition of man-made reservoirs at Bisbee and Armourdale, year-round fishing joined the mix of outdoor attractions.
Recently, development of public lands, especially at the Nikolaisen Waterfowl Production Area and Lake Alice National Wildlife Refuge, provide excellent opportunities for exceptional bird watching.
From golf to groomed snowmobile trails, four-season recreation is a reality here. Live theatre, art galleries and unique cafés provide indoor diversions. Each community celebrates the seasons with special festivities ranging from Music on the Prairie in tiny Perth to Duck Daze, celebrating the opening of the waterfowl hunting season across the county.
Camping accommodations, ranging from modern to primitive, are available on the reservoirs and lakes and in all the communities. Motels are located in Cando, Bisbee and Hansboro, with several bed and breakfasts, inns and lodges dotted across the county and the surrounding region.
